About Us
HDB Marine was established in 1983 on Lake Coeur d’Alene and is a recognized leader in the marine industry.
HDB Marine—also known as Harrison Dock Builders—was founded in 1983 in Harrison, Idaho on the shores of Lake Coeur d’Alene by Keith Shannon as a family-owned and operated business. For over four decades, we’ve been a trusted leader in custom dock building and marine construction, known for quality craftsmanship, deep industry expertise, and long-term client relationships.
We are a full-service marine contractor, offering consulting, design, engineering, manufacturing, retail and wholesale sales, installation, and ongoing service. Our clients span residential, commercial, and government sectors, with projects ranging from private docks on Lake Coeur d’Alene to large-scale marina and waterfront infrastructure throughout the Pacific Northwest and across the United States.
Our expertise covers all aspects of marine construction, including custom docks, wave attenuators, floating platforms (such as pumping facilities, C-stores, restrooms, and working stages), gangways, ramps, public and private moorage systems, dry-stack storage, boat lifts, boat housing systems, and fuel systems. We specialize in turn-key marina construction, managing projects from concept to completion with precision and care.
In addition to construction, we offer a wide range of marine products, including dock and boat accessories, dock kits and hardware, and tram systems. If you don’t see what you’re looking for, give us a call—chances are we have it or can source it.
Our mission at HDB Marine is simple: to delight every customer by exceeding expectations, advancing the marine industry through superior products and thoughtful innovation, and delivering dependable waterfront solutions built to perform for generations.
We take our environmental commitments seriously. Our green efforts apply to our products and services as well as the way we conduct our business. By using recycled and sustainable materials, we and our customers are helping to protect the environment and make a difference in the world ecology.
HDB Marine recognizes the success the Clean Marina Program has had in improving the ecology of our boating waterways and fisheries. We applaud and appreciate the dedication and hard work of all Clean Marina Programs & Participants across the nation.
We:
New Construction: Office and Manufacturing
Installed Energy Efficient T5 Lighting systems known to reduce energy costs as much as 35%.
Installed a High Efficiency Wood Furnace for heating, reducing our use of fossil fuels. Use salvaged wood from demolition projects and beach clean-up.
We are often involved in demolition of dilapidated wooden piers, docks, pilings, and other natural wood structures.
We routinely inspect and sort these materials for reclaim and recycling. For example, many large natural timbers from a recently demolished 80 year old wood dock were sent to local lumber mills for reclaim and reuse.
Unsalvageable natural wood materials are collected and used in a high efficiency wood burning stove to heat our new office and aluminum manufacturing facility.
Salvaged materials (steel, aluminum, etc.) are collected and recycled appropriately.
Our HDB cedar log dock is an environmentally friendly and beautiful dock. It is constructed with standing dead timbers/logs, sustainable and recycled materials. (Please see our video.)
Steel – Our purchased steel comes from 97.5% recycled scrap. From the scrap used, 70% is post-consumer recycled and 30% is post-industrial.
Aluminum – Our purchased aluminum is 25% recycled post-industrial and 100% recyclable.
Floats – The encapsulated polyethylene shell of our purchased floats are environmentally stable and recyclable.
Decking – Our purchased decking is made with 30% post-consumer recycled content, and 60% pre-consumer recycled content. No new trees are cut down to make our purchased decking.
